Denise, family and staff are absolute lifesavers for new expats moving to Bangalore. My family and I moved here to start a small outsourcing firm, but as an independent entrepreneur, I didn’t have the big budget or contacts of the large corporations. They totally took care of us starting from the airport pick-up all the way to finding long-term accommodations, steering us clear of the traps and snares set up for new and inexperienced visitors.

They greeted us at the airport with friendly smiles at 3:00 A.M and had everything arranged – even down to tipping the baggage handlers at the local rate. The very next morning, and after we rested a few hours, they got my laptop set up on their high-speed internet connection within minutes – no extra charge. (Unlimited access is included in the daily fee.) They got new SIMM cards for our two cell/mobile phones within an hour of our requesting them, and also arranged for a car and driver for what the locals pay – no extra charge for either service.

Food is an important issue if you’re moving to Bangalore and not staying in one of the fancy hotels. There isn’t a McDonalds around every corner, and you don’t have time to cook while trying to figure everything out. This was not a problem as breakfast, lunch and dinner were included in their daily fee and was quite good. They also went out of their way to try to accommodate any special requests we had concerning food, and of course, the kitchen was open for us to cook something for ourselves if so desired.

They have a very attentive and courteous staff that will help you with anything you need. We were very apprehensive about making our first shopping trip for miscellaneous items, so they had a member of the staff accompany us to the all the right stores – and no, he didn’t have a kick-back deal with the store owner, and he refused to accept a tip from us at the end of the trip.

Another hidden value of staying with Denise and Shemej was the continuous discussions we had on Indian culture, and especially how expats must adapt to do business here. Especially during meal times, everyone would congregate in the dining room and talk about their perspectives on the issues of the day, and specific topics of doing business in Bangalore. I could never get this kind of valuable information sitting around in one of the big hotel lobbies.

Finding long-term accommodations is one of the most daunting tasks for a new expat in Bangalore. Denise and Shemej gave us the real information on the property market, along with the real prices we should expect to pay for what kinds of accommodations. They offered to negotiate prices on our behalf to avoid us paying the “expat premium”, but they also put us in contact with a reputable real estate agent without any commission to themselves.

When we left Denise's accommodations to move to longer-term accommodations, I felt like I was cutting the umbilical cord! However, I know that they are only a phone call away and would be happy to help us when we need it. We were so lucky to have found their website just a few days before arriving in Bangalore.
